Help us understand anti-slavery activity across the UK

A short online survey has been launched to better understand the work being done by UK anti-slavery and anti-trafficking civil society organisations.

The survey is part of a new report by the Rights Lab at the University of Nottingham. The report will review current anti-slavery NGO and voluntary sector activity across the UK, and is supported by the UK’s Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner (IASC).

After completing a mapping of UK modern slavery partnerships, the Rights Lab is looking to understand another important element of the anti-slavery ecosystem: civil society.

Dr Timo Schrader, a Research Associate at the Rights Lab, said: “There are a growing number of non-profit organisations working on anti-slavery issues.

“A comprehensive stakeholder mapping and analysis will provide a clear understanding of the type of work that they do, the points of collaboration between them, potential overlaps of effort, gaps in provision, and examples of best practise.”

The survey may be filled out by anyone from an anti-slavery organisation in a leadership, executive, or management capacity or otherwise empowered to represent the organisation. The survey can be found by clicking on this link. “In combination with our November 2017 report about local modern slavery partnerships” says Dr Schrader, “we will be a lot closer to understanding what the UK anti-slavery movement looks like today and how it can be supported to develop its strengths, gaps and possible futures.”

To better understand this aspect of the anti-slavery ecosystem, the team needs the help of NGOs, charities, and any other not-for-profit organisation or group registered in the UK or operating through a headquarters or branch in the UK even if the work is international in nature. This includes Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England.

Dr Schrader adds: “We would appreciate everyone spreading the word about this survey via social media or their own email lists. We are particularly interested in reaching out to smaller organisations across the UK.”

For any questions about the survey, email the Rights Lab at rightslab@nottingham.ac.uk.

The survey will close on 31 May 2018 at noon.
