Supporting Students through Smart Bars

A major way in which Information Services (IS) has been providing help to students is through our Smart Bar Service.

The first Smart Bar was opened in Hallward Library, Level 1, in 2016.

For the start of the 2016/17 session, IS opened four new Smart Bars at the following locations:

  • George Green Library, Level 2
  • Greenfield Medical Library, QMC Learning Hub
  • Djanogly Learning Resource Centre, Computer Room
  • Opal Building at Sutton Bonington, IT Support Office

Smart Bars provide a one-stop shop for IT help and support with a wide range of issues, including laptop repairs, virus removal, email, software and wifi.

Staff support Windows, Mac OSX and GNU/Linux laptops as well as Android, Windows and Apple iOS mobile devices.

During the period September – December 2016, the Smart Bars welcomed over 4,000 visitors. For the whole of 2016, the figure was 6,705.

We are delighted to report that 98% of visitors rated the service as “Good” or “Very good”. Visit our IT Services website to find out more. Watch our Smart Bar video to see how we’ve helped students solve their IT issues and how our Smart Bars may be able to help you.
