Freshers IT Survey 2016 – and the winner is …

In Autumn 2016 Information Services launched our third Freshers Survey to obtain feedback from new students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, to learn more about their early experiences of IT Services across our UK campuses.

The survey asked Freshers about their knowledge of the IT services available before their arrival at the University, whether they had registered online and how easy that process had been. It also asked about the ease with which they could activate their IT account, the usefulness of IT induction sessions and whether or not they had needed to access any of the sources of help and support for IT (e.g. Smart Bar, Student IT Support or IT Service Desk). We asked how they rated the UoN Print service, their experience of wireless connectivity across campuses, and whether or not they were aware of free software, such as MS Office 365, that was available to them.

The aim of all of the questions was to obtain honest feedback and suggestions for improvements in order that Information Services can continuously improve the experience of future new students at the University of Nottingham.

This year we obtained our best response rate yet with 522 new students responding to the survey. We included a prize draw as part of the Freshers survey and this year the prize on offer was a new Lenovo ThinkPad Helix.

Last week, we had pleasure in presenting the prize to our winner, Mariam Sajid (pictured with Nikki Hanson, Head of the CIO Office), who is currently undertaking a Masters course in Life Sciences.  Mariam commented, ‘being somone who has never been lucky with prize draws, winning this is so unbelievable I can not fully express in words. My interactions with the IT services has been quite a pleasant and easy-going experience where whenever I had issues with connectivity, my laptop or just figuring out computer-based stuff, I found them to be quite helpful and above all very accessible at my different moments of crisis. ‘

Information Services thanks all Freshers who completed the survey.
