International Student Ambassador: Dishaa from India

Our International Student Ambassadors provide campus tours, telephone calls and social media for international students preparing to study at Nottingham. Dishaa is from India and is studying MA Person Centred Experiential Counselling and Psychotherapy. Here are her thoughts on life at Nottingham.

Why did you choose the University of Nottingham?

I chose Nottingham as it was the only university in the UK to offer my course with an attached placement, I also chose the university for its world-renowned status.

What is your favourite thing about the University of Nottingham?

My favourite thing about the University of Nottingham is the convenience of travelling from one campus to another, using the free hopper bus. I also enjoy the free food events and the beautiful campuses.

What is the best thing about your course?

The best thing about my course is the attached placement in a clinic, as it gives me the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in my field.

What was your first impression of the University of Nottingham?

I was very impressed with the facilities, the convenience of everything and the University Park campus.

What do you like about Nottingham as a city?

I like that everything is quite close by and easy to get to. There are also a variety of events in the city centre, such as the Christmas Markets, the Beach Shack and Nottingham Night Light and no matter what time of year it is, there will always be a street musician strumming their guitar, singing or playing the piano when you least expect it!

What is your experience of accommodation in Nottingham?

I have had a lovely experience living in postgraduate self-catered halls. What I like most is the convenience of being 5 minutes from my classes, the bus stops and the gym, I have also met my closest friend! Cleaners also come twice a week to clean the kitchen and bathroom.

What would be your top tips for a new international student starting at the University of Nottingham in their first year?

Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and seek out opportunities, that’s the best way to make friends and make the most of your time abroad!
