Calling all early career researchers: Ingenuity18 needs you!

There’s a way to do it better – find it. – Thomas Edison

The University of Nottingham (UoN) has a long history of supporting researchers in developing innovative IP-based solutions that address significant global challenges and commercial opportunities. After investing over £250,000 worth of grants into the next generation of groundbreaking entrepreneurs, Ingenuity18 is now turning its attention to developing the future researchers at UoN.

Ingenuity18 is a journey of exploration, re-engagement with the problems facing contemporary society, and a chance to discover disruptive and innovative solutions to how we address them.

We are looking for the next generation of researchers to innovate, help transform our institution, and add to the global impact of UoN. If you have an IP-related idea for innovation that you would like to explore, Ingenuity18 needs you.

Ingenuity18 Ideas Summit

The Ingenuity18 Ideas Summit is happening on 23rd until 25th February, and is an ideal opportunity for you to begin the journey of turning your idea for innovation into a reality. The weekend-event will feature a variety of contributors presenting provocative, disruptive and innovative ideas. It aims to challenge your existing ideas and re-contextualise your thoughts, encouraging you to devise new and original IP-related solutions.

Ingenuity18 Innovation Diploma

ECRs are encouraged to participate in the Ingenuity18 Innovation Diploma. This 5-week evening course will take you through the journey of innovation: from idea through to IP-related business case. The diploma aims to provide you with the skills, knowledge and practical experience required to respond to the challenges involved in managing, commercialising, and implementing innovation and new idea development.

Ingenuity18 Competition

Each year, The Ingenuity Competition awards over £100,000 to support student and alumni business ideas that demonstrate the most business potential. This year, there will be additional prizes for ECRs to help develop your ideas further.

As an ECR, entrance to the competition will consist of submitting an outline proposal for a research or IP-based activity. Non-IP-based research ideas are also applicable for Ingenuity18.

Past participants have developed some trailblazing innovations with the support of the University’s IP office, ranging from affordable defibrillators, to solar-powered water pumps, and algorithms to tackle fake news. Ingenuity18 is looking for your ideas and inspiration to add to the dynamic innovation community at UoN.
