Lian: The fairest of them all!
In the Ingenuity Lab, no day is the same and every member has a different story and requirements. As a group, we support each other, collaborate and ensure we have as much fun along the day; creating a melting pot of ideas! What did you study at the University of Nottingham? Film and Television Studies, 2015
What made you want to be an entrepreneur?
Growing up in an entrepreneurial family, I dreaded becoming a businesswoman. As the oldest child in the family, I’ve always been told my path is clear: study business, come back to take over the family enterprise, and that’s the end of it. But little did they know I had a little plan of my own. After months deliberating over the university choices, my parents and I finally reached an agreement. A few months later, my luggage and I landed at Heathrow for The University of Nottingham.
A friend reached out to me as she needed help with her business. Whilst working with her, I realised how much I enjoy the thrill of being an entrepreneur. The desire grew even stronger when I joined the Ingenuity Lab, and had the opportunity to meet a lot like-minded people. Deep down, I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, and now the circumstances seemed perfect.
What is your business concept?
Our business idea is to introducing Asia serum mask into the UK market. In order to do that, we will divide our business into two parts: first to sell to individual consumer through our online website; www.lianmask.co.uk and second is to sell to small businesses offline.
What stage are you currently at in setting up your company/business?
We are still in a very early stage of the business, our website just launched this week and we are offering the following on our website:
- 15% off on all products – using the code ‘yaolian’ during check out
- Free delivery on all orders – select free delivery during check out
- One free sample available customer on signup – see the ‘green’ tab in the bottom left hand corner.

What challenges have you faced during the process?
The challenges we are facing is how to bring more traffic to our website and how to promote our business in a cost effective way.
How has being a Ingenuity Lab member helped you?
The lab itself is a great platform; it has its own connections and media channels that helped us to send out our message.
What are you goals for this year?
Our goal for this year is to refine the website and consumer service, and to achieve £50,000 sales goal.
