What to do in the summer before uni starts

Summer is flying by and before we know it the start of term will be upon us! In order to make the most of your final few weeks of the summer, follow these handy tips to W.E.L.C.O.M.E you to University life.

Welcome Week

Keep an eye on the SU Welcome website for information about your first week. There will be a fresher’s fair, ‘try it’ sessions and a whole range of events going on within halls and courses.

The summer is a great time to experience things you may not have the chance to while you’re at uni. This could be travelling (at home or overseas!), visiting your favourite theme park, working on your local high street or making memories with your mates.

Leaving home for university can feel quite daunting. Spend plenty of time with family, friends and pets…(trust me, I didn’t realise how much I’d miss my dogs!). Even if you’re staying at home for uni, you will be making new friends and keeping busy with academic and extra curricular activities, so making time for people beforehand is still a good idea!

Most people have their sights set on fresher’s week, halls or societies, but don’t forget about your course! You’ll most likely receive a letter or email with important information, so take the time to familiarise yourself with this and contact the relevant person if you have any questions.

There are so many online resources to make your transition to student life even smoother. There’s the SU website, course web pages, facebook groups, twitter and so on! Use them to familiarise yourself with what’s going on.

Make friends

Speaking of online resources, use them to get chatting to fellow prospective students over the next few weeks. You might get to know some like-minded people, or at least recognise a few faces when you arrive.

Most importantly: enjoy the rest of your summer and get excited for the next chapter.
