The Faculty of Arts Futures Festival

Anna White, Employability Officer, Faculty of Arts

These first weeks of term can be quite intense. You’re socialising with new flatmates and fellow students, exploring all the opportunities that university has to offer, and getting more flyers than you can read. You might also be starting to think about your career goals, wondering what you’d like to do and are feeling unsure about how to enhance your prospects.

If you’re a student at the Faculty of Arts (including subjects within the culture, languages and area studies, humanities and English schools), we’re making that side of things a tiny bit easier. The Faculty of Arts Futures Festival on Thursday 26 September is a one-stop introduction to different career paths, resources and support that can help you make headway with your plans.

What can you expect?

This event will show you what is on offer to improve your prospects after university through volunteering and work experience opportunities. For example there is the Crop-Up Gallery which is a student-run curatorial group founded by art history students. Members can gain valuable experience  in areas such as leadership, curatorship, fundraising, networking and marketing. Additionally, current students and graduates will be available to give you tips on how you can make the most of university life.

Who will be there?

Be inspired by representatives from sectors that look to recruit arts students, i.e. publishing, PR and journalism, translation, heritage and law. Did you know that arts graduates’ intellectual curiosity, creative problem-solving and ability to consider things from different perspectives are highly marketable? We can show you how to present your skills and experience effectively when you start to apply for jobs.

If you are a returning student, you still have time to gain valuable experience and skills, so come along to learn about opportunities, events and initiatives that will enhance your prospects after graduating. Remember that as a Nottingham graduate you have access to the Careers and Employability Service at Nottingham for life.

The Faculty of Arts Futures Festival is open all day from 10.30am – 4.30pm and will be held in Highfield House and a pink dome marquee outside the New Theatre.  Read the event leaflet for more information.
