Collaboration with Sichuan Province

The University of Nottingham CPD team  is delivering the Sino-UK Regional Exchanges and Collaboration Programme for the Department of Foreign and Overseas Affairs of the Sichuan Provincial Government. The programme will broaden the knowledge of participants in areas including Britain’s foreign affairs policy, comparison of Chinese and British local governments as well as inputs on Brexit and China’s One Belt One Road policy.

The programme is taking place in Nottingham and London and has included inputs from the University’s leading academics in Sino-UK relations along with the Department for International Trade in Nottingham. The programme has also included visits to Nottingham City Council, Leicestershire County Council, The National Space Centre, The China Britain Business Council, the Centre for UK China Development at Cambridge and the Foreign Office where the group were hosted by John Pearson, Deputy Head of the East Asia Department. We are grateful for the support of these organizations.

Mr Zhang Ruihong who is the delegation leader commented that the programme is amongst the best they have participated in having attended similar programmes in the US and Europe. He also praised the range of topics and visits.

This programme has been as a direct result of the University of Nottingham accreditation from China’s State Administration for Foreign Expert Affairs (SAFEA). The accreditation positions the University in a select group of international Universities with special approval to provide education and training in a number of areas to organisations in China.

As part of the University’s broader China engagement strategy, Sichuan Province is important, particularly in the areas of Continuing Professional Development and our Research Beacons of Excellence. With recent success for our Future Food Beacon of Excellence in Sichuan, we look forward to continued and increased collaboration with Sichuan Province.
