25 December: Season’s Greetings from the Vice-Chancellor

I hope you have enjoyed the daily blog posts from the e-Advent Calendar over the last 25 days.

The daily posts have been an excellent way to showcase the richness and diversity of material within the University’s Manuscripts and Special Collections.  From our extensive DH Lawrence collections through to old recipes and beautiful illustrations, there is much to be proud of.

In addition to this, the commentaries written in conjunction with each of the items have provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the experience and expertise of our academics from across our Schools and Faculties.  I do hope you will continue to visit our growing collection of blogs in the New Year.

It is traditional at the end of the year to reflect on the previous 12 months, and we have launched some outstanding initiatives in 2011 which we will be able to build on over the coming years.

Highlights include – Impact: The Nottingham Campaign, our ambitious fund raising initiative, which will continue to grow over the next five years; new investment in buildings and infrastructure at all of our campuses; the first Graduation from our School of Veterinary Medicine and Science; our unique LOWRY exhibition which continues to break visitor number records at Lakeside; and the celebration of the University’s 130 years of excellence.  These, together with the dedication and commitment from staff, students and supporters of the University, mean we can certainly look forward to 2012.

Season’s greetings to you and your families, and warm wishes for a peaceful seasonal break.

Professor David Greenaway
Vice-Chancellor
